What should you consider before you buy?
Contemplating home ownership?
Buying a home is complex and can be hugely confusing for a first-time home buyer. Educate yourself about the buying process before you begin. Plenty of resources are found on the Internet, and we have some materials to explain in plain English. We can also refer community-sponsored classes, and books like “Home Buying For Dummies” by Eric Tyson and Ray Brown, (IDG Books Worldwide, Inc.)
Finances: You will need to determine the amount of money you can save for your down payment and how much you can afford to pay monthly. A lender will help you find out the size of mortgage you qualify for and get you pre-approved. A mortgage broker can help you to find the best mortgage rate possible. When calculating the costs of Florida home ownership, you will need to plan for homeowner’s insurance, property taxes, private mortgage insurance (if required), utilities, repairs, and maintenance.
Some things to consider before deciding what kind of home you need now and five years from now are: How long do you plan to live in your Florida home? Will you be starting or adding to your family? Do you have any special requirements such as schools, proximity to stores, public transportation, recreation facilities, etc.?
